We are excited to get 2020 off to a roaring start when it comes to our wine dinners here at Backstreet Cafe.  On Tuesday, January 21, one of the masterminds of modern Spanish winemaking, Miguel Angel of Rioja, is set to join us! Rioja is one of the most significant wine regions in the world and the most famous in all of Spain. Best known for red wine, the region is synonymous with the Tempranillo grape although they also make classic rosé and lovely whites from the Viura grape. It’s a paradise of seriously drinkable wine, representing a stunning mix of power and value. We are excited to share several amazing wines from the Finca Allende & Finca Nueva properties. Miguel Angel was a prodigy in Rioja.  He burst on the scene at age 25; enterprising, sociable and yet controversial. He sought to revolutionize winemaking in the region. His desire to craft high-quality wines, by farming more thoughtfully and reducing the overuse of oak, earned him the nickname “enfant terrible.”  In the end, though, they recognized he was right and he helped craft a brilliant future for what Rioja was capable of producing.  We are thrilled to have him join us for a night of exciting food and wonderful wines!
